Your opportunity


We are looking for a legal professional with significant experience in funds management and capital markets to join us as a Senior Legal Counsel.


The Australian Unity Investments business (positioned within the Wealth & Capital Markets platform), together with its boutique funds management partners, Acorn Capital, Platypus Asset Management and Altius Asset Management, is responsible for the stewardship of more than $10 billion in funds under management and advice on behalf of its customers.


As Senior Legal Counsel, Investments, you will deliver high quality, independent-minded and commercially-focused legal services, aligned to the strategic and commercial drivers of Australian Unity Investments.  You will be called upon to:


  • advise in relation to Private Equity/Venture Capital opportunities and transactions
  • draw on well-honed skills to draft, review and finalise a wide-range of agreements for the business and, where required, for the broader W&CM platform (including shareholder agreements and other corporate arrangements pertaining to the businesses’ participation in its chosen asset classes and market sectors)
  • draft, contribute to and review (as applicable) various PDSs, TMDs, other disclosure documents and marketing material
  • assist in or lead the legal streams for M&A transactions as well as support the business in identifying and managing risks in the context of its transactional and project work
  • advise on product development and maintenance of managed funds as well as appropriate and innovative fund (debt and equity) structuring options to support the development and growth of the businesses’ product suite and execution of its broader business strategy
  • Advise and assist in dispute resolution

You will report to the GM Legal & Regulatory Assurance – Wealth & Capital Markets and will work closely with the broader legal and governance team, the W&CM executive team, external advisers and strategic partners.

About you

Expertise and qualifications will include:


  • Tertiary qualification in law with 10+ years PQE, well-practised in the Funds Management / Capital Markets arena coupled with deep corporate and commercial law expertise.
  • A high level of business acumen with a deep appreciation of legislative and compliance requirements and their application and effect upon business operations.
  • Highly developed leadership, influencing, and stakeholder skills with the ability to establish partnerships across the Australian Unity Group and external parties.
  • Passionate about the law and providing expert advice to solve complex matters.
  • Demonstrated ability to inspire and drive innovation and effective change initiatives.
